In the water
Tile reads differently once it’s wet — color deepens, texture catches the light, and the waterline becomes a detail worth lingering on. These installs show how the material behaves where it matters: at the edge, on the steps, and fully submerged.
See it wet before you commit
Pool tile is a decision you make in person. Every project runs through a partner dealer showroom, where the material can be seen and touched before it’s specified.
Questions people ask about our pool tile
How do I know which Island Stone & Tile products are approved for pools, spas, and water features?+
Approval for submerged use is product-specific. Before selecting a product for a pool, spa, or water feature, confirm that the specific product is approved for the intended application by reviewing the product webpage, specification sheet, and applicable installation instructions.
Are there special installation requirements for tile used in pools, spas, and water features?+
Yes. Submerged installations require additional attention to substrate preparation, waterproofing, setting materials, mortar coverage, movement accommodation, and curing. Review the Island Stone & Tile Pool Tile Installation Guide and any product-specific requirements before installation begins.
Can natural stone be used in pools and other submerged applications?+
Yes. Selected IS&T natural stone products are approved for submerged applications. Natural stone used in pools requires proper sealing and ongoing maintenance, including balanced water chemistry, regular cleaning, and periodic resealing.
Can IS&T glass tile be used in pools, spas, and water features?+
Yes. IS&T glass tile products that are approved for submerged applications can be used in pools, spas, and water features when installed in accordance with IS&T pool-specific installation instructions. Always confirm approval for the specific product before installation.
How should tile and natural stone in pools, spas, and water features be cleaned and maintained?+
Regular cleaning and balanced water chemistry are essential to long-term performance. Natural stone approved for submerged use should be sealed and periodically resealed; glass tile does not require sealing. Use pH-neutral cleaners and non-scratching tools, and avoid aggressive acidic or abrasive cleaning methods.
How are IS&T glass tile mosaics mounted, and is the mounting system suitable for submerged applications?+
IS&T glass tile mosaics use either alkali-resistant mesh or polyurethane/rubber dot mounting. These mounting systems are not the primary bond holding the tile in place, and approved IS&T glass mosaics—including mesh-mounted products—are suitable for submerged applications when installed in accordance with IS&T pool-specific installation instructions.
